Immerse yourself in a holistic photography course with award-winning portrait and documentary photographer, Alia Youssef, who will walk participants through everything from photography techniques such as exposure, composition and lighting, to the intricate process of portrait photography, while also exploring visual and conceptual themes and learning to build a portfolio.
This workshop is geared for artists who identify as beginner to intermediate in their skill-level and open to those who have their own cameras as well as those who currently don’t own cameras and are able to use their phones for the purposes of the exercises in the workshop. Spoken Word Poetry: from the Page to the Stage

Explore all elements of spoken word poetry through this immersive course that will allow participants to engage deeply with the writing and performance of poetry. Renowned spoken word artist and writer, Timaj Garad, will lead participants through a series of activities designed to expand creative possibilities. In addition to writing poetry, participants will also learn performance techniques that will bring their writing to life on stage and support them in developing their own unique voice and presence in front of a live audience.
Directing Documentary Film

Join award-winning and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Ariel Nasr for this exciting workshop! Participants will learn everything from a basic overview of the documentary director’s point of view, the process of writing treatments, best practices for interviews, the trust and permission needed when it comes to access, and the relationship between documentary filmmakers and participants. The workshop will conclude with a brief overview of the various sources of funding for documentary in Canada.
